PDF SDK · for developers and integrators
ArkoPDF SDK
Add PDF reading, editing, annotation, page management and document security to your own application. The SDK wraps the entire PDF application layer — you never work with PDF data structures directly, you just call the API.
Why build on the ArkoPDF SDK
Ship PDF features as part of your product, not as a project you have to keep maintaining.
A working reader in days
Page rendering, navigation, display and zoom modes, and text selection are already wrapped. A handful of calls gets you a usable PDF reader.
No PDF internals to learn
Merging takes a list of file paths; splitting takes parameters. The application layer lives inside the SDK, so your team doesn't start by reading the PDF specification.
One API across five platforms
Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and Linux are all in scope, so a cross-platform product can share a single way of calling into PDF.
Source licensing available
Beyond a binary integration, the PDF core source can be licensed to developers for deeper customisation and long-term maintenance.
What the SDK covers
Grouped by feature area, covering the common needs of PDF applications.
Reading
Page rendering, page navigation, display modes, zoom modes, document navigation and text selection.
Text editing
Paragraph recognition (text becomes editable paragraphs); character attributes (font, size, colour, bold, italic, super- and subscript, alignment); text modification (cursor positioning, deleting, inserting and changing attributes).
Image editing
Add, delete, rotate, crop and scale images proportionally, plus z-order management.
Shape editing
Delete, stretch, scale, rotate and recolour paths.
Annotations
Create (all standard PDF annotation types), modify (colour, opacity, line width, appearance — and delete), and extract (annotation attributes and content, which is what cloud annotation workflows need).
Page management
Insert, replace, delete, rotate and crop pages through direct API calls.
Split and merge
Merge by passing in the file paths; split by page count, by chapters, or by file size.
Document security
Encryption and decryption, plus digital signatures.
Supported platforms
These are the platforms the SDK itself supports. The ArkoPDF desktop app currently ships for Windows (Windows 7 through 11) only.
Pricing and licensing
Quoted per project; contracts and invoices available.
Source licensing
Source licensing is available — the PDF core source can be provided to developers. Scope and delivery are agreed per project.
